Dome Support
To enable members of the Cwmbran tennis Club to play their favourite game all year round, 3 of their tennis courts are covered by an inflatable dome from October to March each year.

180 Platipus type BO6 anchors were installed to secure the large temporary covering over a site that is exposed to high winds during the winter.

The Lawn Tennis Association and its consultants have approved this unique Platipus solution. It replaces traditional concrete ring beam techniques at a third of the cost.

The Guinness Book of Records Tree Transplant

At 17.8 metres high and over 60 years old, this London Plane tree became the largest tree ever to be transplanted according to the Guinness Book of Records.

The tree planted at The Winwick Park development for Countryside Properties Plc, was located on the site of a former water tower that was most recently the base for a huge crane.

Platipus recommended an above ground guying system with expanding bolts fixed to the concrete pads used for the crane base.

Core drilling and bolt expansion took 40 minutes and the guying was completed in just over an hour.

Soil Nail Interest Grows in the UK

FRANCE

Platipus pipeline systems are suitable for gas, oil and water in on-shore or offshore applications. Platipus have provided solutions with significant cost and time savings over traditional buoyancy control methods, with minimal impact on the environment.

Shown below is part of the 14km high-pressure gas pipeline for Gaz de France that was anchored by Platipus pipeline anchoring systems.

ITALY

Treviso, an historic city in the Veneto region is renown for its art and history during the Middle Ages. In the centre of the city is the I’ sola di Pescheria (Pescheria Island). Previously the site of a traditional fish market, the island is now being transformed into an ambitious new market with a glass ceiling. To provide shade over the glass roof, tall chestnut trees with large canopies are being planted on the perimeter of the island. The requirement of the Municipality was for an effective and aesthetic support system for the transplanted trees. These objectives are being met by using Platipus rootball anchoring kits.

AUSTRALIA

During the extension of the Southern Freeway in Western Australia, it was necessary to support the existing main water pipeline while a replacement pipeline was constructed in an adjacent access tunnel. The 5.5 metre high sheet pile retaining wall was supported using a single row of 60 type BO6 anchors installed to a depth of 8 metres. Anchoring into dense sand, these anchors each achieved an ultimate load in excess of 140kN.

SWITZERLAND

Following the installation of a new lift system in the ski resort of Leysin, the adjacent embankment needed to be stabilised. Large poles and wire netting were secured using small Stealth anchors. Due to the limited accessibility to the site and embankment, the 100 type SO4 anchors had to be installed and loadlocked by hand. Work was completed over a 5-day period.

JAPAN

Work on rock fall retention systems is continuing in Japan. Maruken Net Kogyo Company uses Platipus anchor systems in many projects where falling rock represents a hazard. Pictured below is the Kitakata Takachiho Sen Rakuseki project in Takachiho. 38 Platipus anchors were installed to secure the netting and prevent rocks falling onto the roadway below.

GERMANY

Landesgartenschau is the largest bi-annual event on the German landscaping industry’s calendar. When it took place in Ostfildern, 96 horsechestnut trees were planted before the rest of the site was developed. It was imperative that these trees looked established before the grand opening of the event.

The trees are 8 metres tall with girths of 60 cms. Platipus RF3 rootball fixing kits were used and the installation time for each kit was around 35 minutes per tree.
