MISCELLANEOUS TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT
Tools ![]() A complete range of tools is available to assist with anchor installation and in some cases, special equipment has been developed to speed up or simplify a particular process. However, in most cases only the basic equipment is required to install and loadlock the anchors into the working position. Comparable products to many of the tools and items of equipment mentioned below can be either hired from plant hire specialists or bought from other distributors. However, it should help users in considering the most effective solution for their purposes from the range of options available. Manual stressing jacks ![]() There are a number of lightweight manual stressing jacks available capable of loadlocking/proof loading an anchor system up to 15 kN, including the Platipus SJ1. These jacks can operate at 900, 600 or 450 installation angles. When used with an in-line load cell, they enable accurate measurement of proof loads.
Hydraulic loadlocking unitsHydraulic loadlocking units like the SJ2 can loadlock/proof load anchor systems to a preset load of 35 kN. It is suitable for use on wire anchor systems and operates from a 30 lpm (8gpm)/ 2000 psi (140 bar) hydraulic power pack. ![]() Manual hydraulic stressing kits like the SK1 and SK2 can loadlock/proof load an open tail anchor system to a load of 100kN/200kN. The kits consist of a jack base, jack, load gauge and hydraulic pump. ![]() The SK3 is a powered hydraulic stressing unit that allows rapid and easy loadlocking/proof loading of an open tail anchor system to 200 kN. It can be operated from a 30 lpm (8gpm)/ 2000 psi (140 bar) hydraulic power pack by using a pressure intensifier. AMT can make available similar systems that will load in access 300 kN. ![]() Hand swager A hand swager allows a top termination to be made on site. The wire tendon is passed through the ferrule and this tool is then used to swage the ferrule closed, forming a soft eye top termination. Swagers are available to fit 4mm, 6mm and 8mm wire tendon. Hard held hydraulic swagers are also available.
In-line load cellAn in-line load cell can be used with a manual stressing jack such as the SJ1. It allows a proof load to be measured during the loadlocking of lightweight anchor systems.
PlatihookThe Platihook is a simple tool used for loadlocking lightweight anchor systems quickly and efficiently by hand. The hook is placed through the eye of the installed anchor system. By pulling up on the handle, the anchor system can be loadlocked. In addition, a standard hand drive rod, or a crowbar can be placed through the handle to enable two operators to apply an increased load. ![]() Tension lever This tool is used to operate the ratchet wheel of a ratchet tensioner. It is available in two sizes.
Rod removersThese are generally used to remove rod sections in light to medium installations. The user places both rod removers onto the first rod section and pulls until all sections have been fully withdrawn from the ground.
Rod removal clampRemoval of rod sections manually can be slow or virtually impossible on many jobs. The rod removal clamp should then be used. The clamp is attached to a manual stressing jack, or to the arm of machinery on-site, e.g., an excavator arm. The pulling force applied to the clamp causes the cam to grip the rod section, enabling it to then be withdrawn.
Wire klein gripThis grip is used to grip the wire tendon when loadlocking an anchor system without a top termination. In light and medium installations, the wire klein grip can be attached to a lightweight manual stressing jack or a hydraulic loadlocking system. In heavier installations, it can be attached, via a wire loop, to the arm of on-site machinery. |
